So, since I am hoping to read a lot of books, and watch lots of movies, I am going to put short reviews up. First is a book I bought in Seattle:
Book: One Hundred Years Of Solitude
Author: Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Beautymagictradgecomedy is the word one would use to describe this book. It’s one of the best things ever written. It’s like the entire history of the universe put into the story of a small town in South America and its founding family.
There is no way to sum up the plot, other than to say that the book is about the trials of the Buendia family over the period of six generations. Their lives are completely encapsulated in the story, so that by the end, you know them all better than they know themselves. While Marquez writes what has been described as “magical reality” this book seems almost more real than reality. It’s almost as if this is how reality should be.
As a fan of the classic indie-comic series “Love and Rockets” (which was obviously heavily inspired by Marquez) this book was a treat for me. I think that everyone should read it. You have time, it’s summer!
