Last night I watched two musical performances.
The first was an emo guy with a fashion mullet singing “Blackbird” to a bunch of dreamy eyed freshmen girls. It was pretty annoying, and a little disgusting ( I did laugh a little, because I knew half those girls, and a quarter of those guys, still get teary eye when they hear Blackbird and think back to Perks of Being A Wallflower).
The second was a friend of mine singing a song he wrote. It was in a bedroom w/ the door closed, and only four (including me) in the audience. And you know what? It was beautiful.
It reminded me of a verse in Matthew:
“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. 6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
